A deep rinse and urine flush pushes a high volume of water all the way through the turf fibers, infill, and drainage backing to physically wash out urine residue that's settled below the surface. This is different from a quick hose-down, which mostly rinses the top of the fibers and does very little to move liquid and residue out of the infill layer where urine actually accumulates over time. Flushing is often the first step in any real odor control plan, since enzyme treatments work better on turf that's already been flushed of built-up residue.
Signs you need this include a yard that smells stronger after rain rather than better, visible dark or damp patches in high-use areas even on dry days, and a general ammonia edge to the smell that regular surface cleaning hasn't touched. If it's been a while since the last thorough flush – weeks or months of daily pet use without one – the infill is very likely holding more urine residue than a light rinse can address.
We use a high-flow hose or specialized flushing equipment to saturate the turf and infill thoroughly, focusing extra time on the heaviest-use zones rather than treating the whole yard uniformly. Water is worked through in stages, allowing it to fully penetrate down to the backing and drain out rather than just running across the surface. We check drainage flow as we go, since blocked or slow-draining sections need extra attention to make sure the flush is actually clearing residue rather than just adding more standing water on top of it.
Cost is based on yard size and the extent of urine buildup – yards flushed on a regular schedule in Malden On Hudson, NY take less time and water than ones being flushed for the first time after a long stretch of daily pet use without any deep treatment.
