U.V. protectant treatment is a topical application that shields artificial turf fibers from sun exposure, which breaks down synthetic materials over time the same way it fades outdoor furniture or a car's dashboard. Without protection, constant sun exposure causes fibers to fade, stiffen, and eventually become brittle enough to snap under normal foot and paw traffic. This treatment slows that breakdown and keeps the turf looking and performing like it did on installation day.
The signs are visual and textural both – fading from a rich green toward a washed-out, yellowish tone, especially in the sunniest parts of the yard, fibers that feel stiff or scratchy rather than soft underfoot, or turf that's noticeably more faded in one section than another based on sun exposure patterns. South-facing yards and areas without any shade cover in Malden On Hudson, NY see this fastest, sometimes within a year or two if the original turf wasn't treated with a strong U.V. inhibitor at installation.
We start with a full inspection to identify which areas have taken the most sun damage, since a yard rarely fades evenly. The turf gets cleaned first so the protectant can bond properly with the fibers rather than sitting on top of dust or residue. We apply the U.V. treatment evenly across the full surface, working it into the fibers rather than just spraying the top layer, with particular attention to the highest-exposure zones identified during inspection. The treatment needs proper drying time before the yard is used again, which we'll walk you through before we leave.
Cost is driven by square footage and current fiber condition – turf that's already showing significant fading or brittleness sometimes needs a more intensive first treatment before switching to a lighter maintenance schedule. Yards with minimal shade cover typically benefit from more frequent reapplication than shaded or partially covered spaces.
Sun damage on artificial turf can't be reversed, only slowed down and prevented going forward. Call (928) 427-2477 to protect your investment before fading sets in.
