Power brooming is the mechanical brushing of artificial turf fibers against the direction they've been matted down, using a stiff-bristled broom or a motorized power brush. Every time a dog runs, digs, or lies in the same spot day after day, the fibers get crushed flat and stay that way. Regular foot traffic does the same thing over time. Power brooming stands those fibers back up, which does more than make the lawn look better – it restores drainage capacity and stops water and urine from pooling in the flattened, compacted areas.
You need this service when your turf has visible matting in high-traffic paths, favorite dog-lounging spots, or anywhere pets consistently run the same route along a fence line. If the grass blades are lying flat and won't spring back when you run your hand through them, that's compacted infill underneath, not just bent fibers. Left alone, matted turf drains poorly, holds odor closer to the surface, and wears out faster because the fibers are under constant stress in one direction.
We start by walking the whole area and identifying the worst traffic patterns before we ever touch a broom. Then we work systematically in one direction, using a stiff synthetic-bristle broom or a motorized turf rake depending on how packed the infill has gotten. We're not just brushing the surface – we're working the bristles down into the infill layer to redistribute it evenly and lift the fibers from the base up, not just fluffing the tips. High-wear zones typically need two or three passes. We finish with a visual check across the whole yard in Malden On Hudson, NY to make sure there's no remaining flat or compacted section.
Cost depends mostly on square footage and how compacted the turf has gotten. A yard that's been brushed regularly takes less time than one that hasn't seen a brush in a year – heavily matted infill takes real effort to redistribute properly, not just a quick pass. Multiple pets, larger dogs, or dedicated dog runs with concentrated traffic usually add time since those areas need more thorough work. We'll always look at the yard before quoting so you're not paying for guesswork.
If your turf in Malden On Hudson, NY is looking flat, patchy, or tired, power brooming is often the fastest fix that makes the biggest visible difference. Call (928) 427-2477 and we'll get it back to standing tall.
